Quantum computations in superconductive and hybrid topological systems

Abstract:
We discuss the general requirements for a physical system to implement
all stages of quantum computing. Devices based on Josephson junctions
are discussed as examples of the implementation of qubits and quantum
operations. The idea of topological quantum computing and its
implementation using Majorana zero modes are presented. In particular,
we consider Majorana states in topological Josephson junctions on the
surface of a topological insulator as well as the possibilities of
conducting quantum operations and quantum measurements in such systems.

Manifestation of the hexatic phase in confined two-dimensional systems
with circular symmetry

Quasi-two-dimensional systems play an important role in the manufacture
of various devices for the needs of nanoelectronics. Obviously, the
functional efficiency of such systems depends on their structural
properties, which could change during phase transitions under the
influence of external conditions (for example, temperature). Until now,
the main attention has been focused on the search for signals of phase
transitions in continuous two-dimensional systems. One of the central
issues in such systems is the analysis of the conditions for the
nucleation of the hexatic phase, which is accompanied by the appearance
of defects in the Wigner crystalline phase at a certain temperature.
However, for modern nanosystems, there arises both a practical and
fundamental question about the critical number of electrons at which the
symmetry of the crystal lattice begins to break in the system under
consideration and, consequently, the nucleation of defects starts. The
dependences of the orientational order parameter and the correlation
function, which characterize topological phase transitions, are studied
as functions of the number of particles at zero temperature. The result
of calculations allows us to establish the precursors of the phase
transition “hexagonal lattice – hexatic phase” for N=92,136,187,
considered as an example.

Development of numerical methods for solving problems of quantum
mechanics based on the synthesis of stochastic and deterministic
approaches

(based on the PhD thesis)

The main problem of the existing methods of quantum mechanical
calculations of the properties of atoms, molecules, and crystals is the
high computational complexity in cases where it is necessary to more
fully take into account electronic correlations, which limits the
possible range of calculated properties of such systems. Therefore, it
is relevant to create new physical and mathematical models and program
code based on them. The work presents an original quantum Monte Carlo
method for solving the Schrödinger equation for fermion systems,
verified on atoms containing _s_-electrons. An asymptotically accurate
(in terms of a step of computational grid) algorithm for solving the
Hartree-Fock and Kohn-Sham equations without the use of basis sets was
created, implemented and verified on the full set of elements of the
periodic table, the computational complexity of which is comparable to
existing algorithms based on basis sets. A mathematical model has been
developed and implemented for taking into account electronic
correlations in the Hartree-Fock method, where the correlations are
obtained from a stochastic calculation.

*Multi-agent technologies for collecting, processing and visualizing
unstructured data*

Within the seminar, the developments of the MEPhI Department of
Competitive Systems Analysis on the implementation of multi-agent
systems for collecting, analyzing and presenting scientific and
technical information from various types of information resources
(international abstract databases, scientific and information social
networks) will be presented. The developed methods make it possible to
create intelligent information systems that can automatically monitor a
given information field; form thematic collections of documents for
different levels of users – organization, laboratory, person; act as
management decision support systems. The prototype of the information
system for the analysis of scientific publications of the Joint
Institute for Nuclear Research will be presented at the seminar.

Subject: Distributed and hybrid computing for Large-scale scientific
projects

A B S T R A C T

The evolution of the global computer infrastructure for experiments at
the LHC at CERN (WLCG) is presented.
Large-scale scientific projects are being implemented in Russia (PIC,
NICA, SKIF, BAYKAL,SILA…),
the most important part of which is the creation of computer systems for
processing experimental data.
It is necessary to create a scientific collaboration in Russia, bringing
together key scientific centers
and universities participating in large-scale scientific projects.

Kind regards, S.I. Manaenkov.
