Support of VOs and experiments

Grid offers a technology of access to the resources and grid-services within the limits of the virtual organizations.

 

The virtual organization (VO) is a community of users of the grid-system united for the decision of certain problems on the recourses of grid in a mode of coordinated distribution of these resources.

In each virtual organization there is an own policy of behavior of its participants which should observe the established rules. The virtual organization can dynamically be formed and have limited time of existence.

Now CICC JINR as a grid-site of the global grid infrastructure supports computations  Virtual Organizations :

alice, atlas, biomed, bes, cms, compass,  lhcb, nica-mpd , nova, dteam , ops.

The main users of the JINR grid resources are virtual organizations of experiments at LHC:  ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb

In recent years, a number of works have been carried out at JINR LIT to apply grid technologies for processing of non-LHC experiments data.

A data processing management system for the COMPASS experiment on SPS has been developed and is in operation. It provides automatic data processing and management on different types of computing resources . Currently, the computing resources available to the collaboration are the CERN Batch Service, the JINR computing centre and the Frontera supercomputer of the Texas supercomputer centre.

The DIRAC Interware was used to enable the integration of distributed heterogeneous computing and storage resources for NICA MPD experiment simulation. More than 50,000 of Monte-Carlo simulation jobs of the NICA MPD experiment were performed at JINR Tier1 and Tier2 using DIRAC.

Virtual organizations have been added to the JINR Tier2 : ILC (WLCG http://www.linearcollider.org/),  MPD (JINR NICA), BM@N (JINR NICA), COMPASS (WLCG CERN), baikalGVD

In the future, in process of interest definition at a large-scale level, VO can be organized at JINR in the field of nuclear physics and condensed matter physics, together with in a new promising direction of research in nanostructure properties.

It is necessary to add that the creation of new VO gets possible and necessary in process of algorithmization of solved problems and development of mathematical methods and means of their solution which demand application of present-day grid technologies.
